Safety In French Car Parks Improved Thanks To Video Surveillance Over Broadband Wireless

Alvarion Improves Security….Protects Vehicles and Their Drivers

Tel-Aviv, April 15 2003. Alvarion Ltd (NASDAQ:ALVR), a leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, today revealed how it is making life safer for the people of Bandol in France. Thanks to Alvarion’s wireless broadband expertise, security has been enhanced in three separate car parks located in the areas known as Casino, Central and Defferari in the city of Bandol which is on France’s Cote d’Azur.

Thirteen cameras around the car parks monitor movements every hour of every day. These cameras then transmit real time images over a wireless broadband network back to a central monitoring unit located two kilometres away from the car parks.

The car parks were chosen because they had previously been subject to acts of vandalism and graffitti from local youths. Images are now observed 24/7 on seven PCs at the monitoring unit. Consequently suspicious individuals can be observed and preventative action taken, if necessary.

François Barois, the mayor of Bandol said: “The security of our citizens is of the utmost importance to us. And so, we have deployed the very latest technology to ensure that we all feel safe when using our public car parks. It has been a fantastic success and crime has been considerably reduced. Not only that, the technology is incredibly good value money wise.“

Equipment from Alvarion was used to develop the broadband wireless network which was integrated into surveillance cameras provided by Scutum, a local system integrator and an Alvarion partner.

Rudy Leser, VP Marketing of Alvarion, said : “Yet another entirely new way to use wireless broadband has been developed. Wireless technology is incredibly versatile. Not only that it is a very cost-effective technology which can be implemented instantly. No need for any cables to be laid or roads to be dug up. We are seeing a lot of demand for public safety solutions such as this throughout Europe. “

Patrick Launay, Technical Director from Scutum, said : “Alvarion’s expertise and experience as well as its fantastic equipment have been key to the success of this network. We have had an incredible amount of interest in the network from other cities throughout France. Not surprising when you consider how safe the people of Bandol now feel and how crime has been reduced in the three car parks. “

The council of Bandol plan to increase the number of cameras to 18 very soon. In addition, numerous other cities in France are also considering installing a similar network
