Alvarion Provides BreezeACCESS OFDM Equipment For Latvian Operator Unistars in the 3.5GHz Licensed Band
Tel Aviv, Israel, April 30, 2002 – Alvarion, Ltd. (NASDAQ: ALVR) today announced that it is providing Latvian operator Unistars with its BreezeACCESSÔ OFDM wireless broadband solution for the 3.5GHz licensed band. Unistars, which offers network applications to ISPs and directly to Business – and Governmental Institutions, has a nationwide license in 3.5 GHz. The deal was secured through Alvarion’s local distributor Dan Communications. Unistars, which started installing one of the first OFDM deployments in the world, already offers services in Riga, Latvia’s capital, which will be covered by OFDM Radio Base Stations. They chose the Alvarion product after extensive testing proved the BreezeACCESS solution to be a superior product supported by, and capable of supporting, a sound business model.
“We chose the Alvarion BreezeACCESS solution because our tests demonstrated it to be reliable, easy to install, and scalable,” said Ilana Rutman, Unistar’s V.P., Business Development. “We were especially impressed by its superior Non Line of Sight capabilities. As our network grows, the BreezeACCESS technology will allow us to quickly and cost-effectively add subscribers, and to make sure those subscribers are serviced with the same quality that our initial customers enjoy, despite the increase in bandwidth usage.”
Added Rudy Leser, VP Marketing of Alvarion, “As an emerging market, Latvia is in a position to fully enjoy the benefits of wireless technology. But in order for that to happen, Unistars needs a committed vendor who is willing to work with and support them from equipment selection, to installation, to network deployment, growth, and beyond. Alvarion is well-versed in nurturing customers of this kind, and is dedicated to ensuring the long-term success of the Unistars venture.”
