Alvarion, Ltd. Provides Kvamnet BreezeACCESS Equipment for Improved ASP Technology Delivery in the 3.5GHz Licensed Band
Tel Aviv, Israel, October 15, 2002 – Alvarion, Ltd. today announced that it is providing Norwegian operator Kvamnet with its BreezeACCESSÔ wireless broadband solution for the 3.5GHz licensed band. Kvamnet, an ASP that provides outsourced accounting services for a variety of small enterprises, public utilities, and institutions in the rural villages and communities of Norway’s fjord region, was seeking a new method of service delivery to their clientele, who heretofore had accessed the company’s solutions via standard dial-up modem.
Providing broadband-driven services to communities in the fjord region is a virtual impossibility, given the difficult terrain and high cost of deploying a suitable wireline infrastructure. But wireless broadband delivery presented a superior and effective solution for the ASP’s customer base, while its deployment via cable or wireline infrastructure was difficult at best and economically prohibitive. Indeed, given the mountainous topography of the region, as well as the time and tremendous expense required to rollout a terrestrial broadband pipeline, the only implementable technology that proved plausible was Broadband Wireless Access (BWA). Kvamnet chose Alvarion because the BreezeACCESS architecture is optimized to support high-speed wireless IP services, including fast data access and telephony, and is ideal for the ASP’s feature-rich applications. Moreover, its inherent versatility enabled Kvamnet to expand its business scope, offering Internet access to enterprises and residential customers eager for broadband-based services in the underserved region.
The BreezeACCESS solution’s modular design allows for a low initial investment and is scalable for future growth on a pay-as-you-grow basis. This enabled Kvamnet to launch its initial broadband service responsibly, starting with two villages, and thus assuring a cost-effective and methodical entrée into the BWA market. The ASP has since made plans to target numerous communities in the fjord region, with potential service outreach to 20,000 residents
Moreover, the BreezeACCESS network opens up a wide variety of new business opportunity for Kvamnet. The broadband access system can be leveraged for myriad data and voice-based services beyond the company’s original accounting applications. Kvamnet is currently targeting ski resorts, local municipalities, offices, schools and private homes, utilizing Alvarion’s BWA solutions as a lucrative revenue-generator to serve the last-mile communities scattered among the fjords. Alvarion’s BWA solutions enable Kvamnet to satisfy the growing demand of business and residential customers in the area for broadband access and data delivery services. Using their equipment, they have been able to expand and better serve their existing customer base and build a compelling business case for future growth in the region.
