Verizon Avenue Deploys Fixed Wireless Broadband Services Using Alvarion Systems

Broadband Internet Services Being Provided to Revitalized Housing on Former California Military Base 
 
 MountainView, California, February 7, 2005 – Alvarion (NASDAQ: ALVR), the global leader in wireless broadband solutions and specialized mobile networks, today announced that Verizon Avenue, a subsidiary of Verizon Communications focused on the multiple-dwelling unit and rural markets, has purchased approximately 2,300 BreezeACCESS™ VL fixed wireless broadband units. This will enable Verizon Avenue to provide high-speed Internet services to five military communities at the former Fort Ord military installation in Monterey, Calif.

The network deployment is part of a U.S. Department of Defense initiative to modernize military housing across the United States. Verizon Avenue is deploying the network throughout the Monterey Peninsula under contract to Clark Pinnacle Family Communities LLC. Clark Pinnacle, a joint venture between Clark Realty Capital of Bethesda, Md., and Pinnacle Realty Management Company of Seattle, is one of several prime contractors selected by the federal government to revitalize military housing.

Alvarion’s BreezeACCESS VL provides broadband last mile connections to homes and business with over 20Mbps of shared capacity available to users in a given area. Using advanced OFDM algorithms, the advanced non-line-of-sight (NLOS) technology that is the basis of the WiMAX specification, the BreezeACCESS VL system is capable of covering all users in an area regardless of rolling terrain and dense foliage.

The BreezeACCESS VL is designed specifically for operators to provide carrier class broadband services to end users throughout a service area, and to enable operators to tailor their service offerings to meet the exact requirements of each market. Due to its flexibility and ease of deployment, fixed broadband wireless networks using VL can be deployed rapidly, which enables fast time to market, especially in areas where wireline infrastructure is unavailable or difficult to build in a timely manner.

In addition, Verizon has deployed Alvarion’s BreezeNET™ B point-to-point systems, an advanced NLOS system that operates in the unlicensed bands of 5.3 GHz and 5.8 GHz, to backhaul the VL cell sites to Verizon Avenue’s nearest point of presence. Alvarion has also provided Verizon Avenue with technical assistance and a variety of professional services, including network design, project management and training.
